Bilindiği gibi, 2006 yılında Ermeni çevrelerinin çabalarıyla 24 Nisan tarihinin her yıl sözde “Ermeni Soykırımını Anma Günü” olarak ilan edilmesi ile ilgili olarak Ohio Eyaleti Meclisi’ne bir karar tasarısı sunulmuş ve Türk toplumu ve Başkonsolosluğumuzun girşimleri ile Ohio Meclisinden geçmesi engellenmişti.
Bu kez, aynı çevrelerin; oluşan sessizlikten faydalanarak yeniden konuyu gündeme taşıdıklarını öğrendik. Öyle ki, bu gibi karar tasarılarının kabul edilmesine dönük çalışmalar sadece ülkemizi karalamak ve tarihi çarpıtmakla kalmamakta, ABD’ne ciddi katkıları bulunan Türk toplumunun moralini de olumsuz yönde etkilemektedir.

Honorable Representative,
I am writing this message to convey my disappointment regarding the House Bill HB499 that, if passed, will designate April 24 as "Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day".
The Armenian allegations of genocide have, to this date, not been historically or legally substantiated. Indeed, to this day, significant scholarship on this sad chapter of history fails to corroborate the Armenian allegations against the Turkish side.
There is no doubt that, other than being one-sided, this resolution is potentially libelous for Turkish Americans of Ohio, a vibrant and highly qualified community which makes comprehensive contributions to the professional life in the State of Ohio. The resolution in question will not only be hurtful to the Turkish-American community but will also constitute a gross disservice to the Turkish-American friendship that has stood the test of time since the Korean War.
I urge you to oppose draft resolution HB499 and take whatever steps you might deem necessary to ensure that it does not pass the Ohio House of Representatives.
